067: 011 The Power Gap
I’ve recently been describing power as the distance between thought and action. In physics this would look like: Power= Work/Time. In philosophy it might be: Power=Intent/Latency.
High Latency (Low Power): You have an idea. You doubt it. You wait. You plan. You get distracted. You try. You fail. Years later, you act. The "signal" has degraded.
Low Latency (High Power): You perceive a necessity. You move. The thought and the body are synchronized.
You can only act in a manner that you are certain. Confidence then, is embedded into the equation. That hesitation you feel before that next jump, that is your power waning.
Admittedly, I was inspired by this concept through biblical text. When God spoke “let there be light, there was light” there wasn’t chatter, or indecision. It is thought to product, an idea into creation without hesitation. It made me think that there is a velocity to manifestation, and it is likely that our “power” is measured in our will long before being expressed on a barbell or track.
Expressions of power need to be based on clear and concise knowing, a trust — or faith if you will — on the outcome. If I jump not knowing if I can make it or I question my tissues holding up, my body will subconsciously try and protect me by limiting me; call it “divine intervention”. This is the power gap. A space that allows us to play with how our intentions turn to action.
Imagine a world where every one of your thoughts is instantaneously manifest into reality. Most of us, no matter our ambitions of heaven, would create a living nightmare. If your physical expression is as imprecise as your thought, your body will be the result of this mindless creation. When I see people moving, their stance, their posture, I don’t see there limitations or injuries, I see their thoughts manifest.
Hesitation means there is work to be done. The goal in this session is not to jump high, or throw hard, but to know precisely what you can or can’t do. The “work” is to then create that reality by reducing the “gap” between your thought and your action.
